Trade was consistently strong on the third day of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.  A brace of fillies sold for 190,000 guineas, the highest price of the day and a further 12 lots were sold for over 100,000 guineas.  A total of 198 lots made 6,632,000 guineas at an average of 33,495 guineas and a median of 20,250 guineas.

The first lot of the day to make 190,000 guineas, the joint highest price of the day, was the Listed winning filly TOUJOURS L’AMOUR who sold to Richard O’Gorman Bloodstock.

Whilst in training with William Haggas, the daughter of AUTHORIZED won as a two-year-old before going on to win the Listed Oaks Trial Stakes at three. She is out of fellow Listed winner HIGH HEEL SNEAKERS who was also second in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes.

O’Gorman was buying the filly for Deerfield Stud, the breeders of Derby winner MOTIVATOR, and commented on his purchase from Stratford Place Stud:

"She is nice filly with decent form and goes to stud."

Another successful sale from the draft of Chris Wright’s Stratford Place Stud was COMEBACK QUEEN, who sold to Mehmet Kurt’s Kingwood Stud for 185,000 guineas.

The Listed-placed ten-year-old grey mare is the dam of two winners and currently in foal to Champion miler KINGMAN. By NAYEF, she is the daughter of the Group placed MISS UNIVERSE who is the dam of three Group/Listed winners that include US Grade 2 winner WORLDLY, as well as Listed winners NICE DANON and DONATIVUM.

It was the ROCK OF GIBRALTAR mare FARANDINE who matched the top price later in the day when selling to Sara Cumani’s Fittocks Stud for 190,000 guineas.

The two-year-old chesnut filly was part of the dispersal of the Late Sarah J. Leigh’s bloodstock that was made up of a total of six lots including Listed winner SETA who sold for 1.1 million guineas yesterday and is a half-sister to RIVARA, the dam of FARANDINE.  The family also traces back to Gerald Leigh’s outstanding foundation mare BROCADE, herself a Group 1 winner and the dam Irish Guineas winners BARATHEA and GOSSAMER.

Catalogued as Lot 2247, the filly has won once and been placed twice as a two-year-old in training with Luca Cumani where she will remain in training.

The Cumani’s were delighted with the purchase and Luca commented:

"It is a great family and something of a memento. We have trained most of the family and she is potentially a black-type performer."

As ever, the Juddmonte draft was a highlight on the Wednesday of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale.  A total of 30 lots were sold for an aggregate 1,550,000 guineas for an average of 51,667 guineas.  Three fillies were sold for more than 150,000 guineas including CORAL GARDEN, sister to Group 1 winner REEFSCAPE who sold to Rabbah Bloodstock for 160,000 guineas, FRONT IN LINE, the daughter of WAR FRONT and sister to Group 3 winner DANCE DRESS who sold to Cormack McCormack Bloodstock for 165,000 guineas and finally REINETTE, the daughter of Group 1 winner ETOILE MONTANTE who was bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 155,000 guineas.

The Group 1 winning mare ODELIZ whose successes for trainer Karl Burke and owner Barbara Keller included the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet and Group 1 Premio Lydia Tesio has been sold in a private sale for 1,000,000 guineas. The daughter of FALCO was originally unsold through the ring yesterday, but via Kern Thoroughbreds’ Lincoln Collins, the five-year-old was bought by Rieko and Michael Baum of Man O’War Farms in Kentucky. ODELIZ was consigned to the sale by Jamie Railton and her pedigree includes the legendary TRIPTYCH and dual Arc winner TREVE.

The final session of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale starts at 9.30am on Thursday, December 3 with 242 lots catalogued.
