Tattersalls enjoyed another successful year in 2015 with annual turnover of 262,139,150 guineas falling just 0.5% below last year’s record figure. Highlights of the Tattersalls year included the highest priced yearling and broodmare in the world in 2015 and the highest priced foal in Europe. Records for turnover, average or median were also set at eight of the twelve sales held at Park Paddocks.

Leading the way was Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale which saw a record turnover of 82,744,500 guineas for the 372 yearlings sold, headlined by the 2.1m guineas DUBAWI filly out of LOVEISALLYOUNEED. It was the fourth year in a row that October Book 1 produced the highest priced auction yearling in the world. The sale also saw the launch of the exciting new £25,000 October Book 1 Bonus, which will pay a £25,000 bonus for winners of any of approximately 300 eligible two-year-old Maiden and Novice races in Britain and Ireland next year.

The Tattersalls December Foal Sale consolidated its reputation as Europe’s premier foal sale with a record turnover and the highest priced foal in Europe in 2015. The 800,000 guineas sale-topping DUBAWI filly out of HIGH HEELED was one of 77 lots which realised 100,000 guineas or more; four times the number of six-figure foals at any other European sale. As ever, the Tattersalls December Foal Sale attracted the cream of the British and Irish foal crops, and Irish consignors enjoyed a particularly successful December Foal Sale in 2015 selling more than 50 of the 77 six-figure foals.

The Tattersalls sales season concluded with the December Breeding Stock Sale which featured the 2.7 million guineas sale of the outstanding broodmare HANKY PANKY, and the 2.1 million guineas paid for European Champion TIGGY WIGGY. HANKY PANKY’s sale was the highest auction price in the world for a broodmare in 2015.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:

“It is enormously satisfying that in 2015 Tattersalls has all but matched last year’s record annual turnover and that the figures sit 7% above the pre-recession peak of 2007. Tattersalls remains the only thoroughbred auction house in Great Britain or Ireland whose turnover has risen above those pre- economic crisis levels, which is a tribute to the support that our clients, both vendors and purchasers alike, have provided.

“Next year is set to be an historic one for Tattersalls as we celebrate our 250th anniversary. A lot has changed in that time, but the core values of integrity and service remain the same and we look forward to welcoming clients, old and new, to Tattersalls in 2016.”
