Islington Winning the G1 Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf
Tattersalls has been appointed to conduct the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal. Thirty Group 1 winners have been reared at the Co. Meath based Ballymacoll Stud since its purchase by the Weinstock family 57 years ago, and the dispersal at Tattersalls will number almost 50 lots comprised of 14 mares, 16 fillies and colts in and out of training, nine yearlings and nine foals, all of which trace back to the two Ballymacoll foundation mares COUNTRY HOUSE and SUNNY VALLEY. The Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal will begin at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale, Europe’s premier yearling sale, and culminate at the Tattersalls December Sale.
Referred to by the Racing Post as ‘One of Europe’s most important dispersal sales of recent times’, the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal presents a unique opportunity to buy into some of the best families in the Stud Book with the magnificent Champion four time Group 1 winner ISLINGTON, in foal to KINGMAN, set to be amongst the headline acts of the eagerly anticipated event. Other highlights amongst the broodmares will include the nine year old GALILEO mare JUSTLOOKDONTOUCH, in foal to SEA THE STARS, whose first foal, the Sir Michael Stoute trained multiple Listed winner ABINGDON, will undoubtedly be one of the stars of the eight regally bred fillies in training.
The Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal at Tattersalls will also feature yearlings and foals by established Classic and Group 1 sires including EXCEED AND EXCEL, LOPE DE VEGA, OASIS DREAM, SEA THE STARS and SHAMARDAL, as well as by the outstanding young prospects GOLDEN HORN, GLENEAGLES and KINGMAN.
Commenting on the announcement of the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal at Tattersalls, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“For more than 50 years the famous pale blue silks of Ballymacoll Stud have been a symbol of sporting excellence throughout the thoroughbred world and Tattersalls is honoured to have been entrusted with the Dispersal of such an outstanding collection of bloodstock.
“Rarely, if ever, has a broodmare band of relatively modest numbers achieved so much on the global stage, and the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal at Tattersalls represents a unique opportunity to share in a legacy of spectacular success and unprecedented overachievement. Tattersalls is proud to be conducting this dispersal on behalf of the trustees of Ballymacoll Stud and proud to share with them the same enduring ethos of excellence and utmost integrity.”
Peter Reynolds, long - serving manager of Ballymacoll Stud, added;
"It has been a privilege to have overseen the Ballymacoll Stud racing and breeding operation on behalf of the Weinstock family for 45 years. We have enjoyed so many truly wonderful days on racecourses throughout the world and I am enormously proud of what the team at Ballymacoll Stud has achieved over the years. To have owned or bred the winners of the Derby, the Oaks, the 2000 Guineas, the St Leger, the Irish Derby, the Irish Oaks, the Irish 2000 Guineas, the Melbourne Cup, the Breeders’ Cup Turf, the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and the Japan Cup all in the last 50 years, is a magnificent tribute to the commitment of the Weinstock family and all associated with Ballymacoll Stud. The success of Ballymacoll Stud reflects our consistent pursuit of excellence and Tattersalls is an appropriate stage on which to offer the Ballymacoll stock to as wide an international audience as possible.”
