2010 December Mare Sale Day 1 Press Release

LOT 1417: SOINLOVEWITHYOU

SOINLOVEWITHYOU, in foal to the legendary SEA THE STARS topped the opening day of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale at 950,000 guineas when knocked down to agent Hugo Lascelles. The first of four sessions saw a total of 161 lots sell for 8,880,500 guineas at an average of 55,158 guineas and a median of 26,000 guineas.

Mares in foal to last year’s champion racehorse SEA THE STARS were always going to be in great demand at this year’s December Sale and the first one (of seven) to come through the ring was SOINLOVEWITHYOU, the winning SADLER’S WELLS half-sister to the five-time Group 1 winner DUKE OF MARMALADE. Consigned from Lady Carolyn Warren’s Highclere Stud, the five-year-old mare hails from the family of AP INDY and LEMON DROP KID. Interest in the mare came from all sections of the ring and included Seamus Burns, Ted Voute, Charlie Gordon-Watson, Australian Tim Stakemire and Turkish owner/breeder Ibrahim Araci, but it was Hugo Lascelles who had the last laugh when his bid of 950,000 guineas wasn’t bettered.

"She has been bought for owner-breeders in the US," reported Lascelles.

"They are racing people, but the foal could well come back here to race - they have run horses in Britain before.

"The SEA THE STARS covering was very attractive, but she is a lovely mare who is a half-sister to a very good horse who could become a top stallion.

"I did have to pay a little more than expected to buy her - lots of people were in on her. She will visit a top US stallion next spring."

Northern Farms’ Fumihiko Nakajima secured the Group 3 winning NUMEROUS mare BELLE ALLURE for 375,000 guineas at the expense of BBA Ireland’s Patrick Cooper. Offered in foal to GIANT’S CAUSEWAY by Islanmore Stud in Ireland, the five-year-old mare was the subject of attention from three different groups of Japanese buyers, with Eishin Farm and Taki Murayama also making bold bids to secure the mare, along with New Zealander Guy Mulcaster, seated alongside Malaysia buyer Dato Yap. However, it was Nakajima who secured the sister to the Group 1 winner JUKEBOX JURY.

"She will go back to foal in Japan and we do not yet know which stallion she will visit," said Nakajima. "She was a Group 3 winner in France and a Grade 3 winner in the US and has a lovely pedigree. We hope to buy another one or two mares this week."

BBA Ireland’s Eamonn Reilly had to go to 340,000 guineas to secure the GALILEO mare FAILTE ISTEACH from the consignment from Jim Bolger’s Redmonstown Stud. The daughter of the Listed winning ERINS ISLE mare AFFIANCED is an own-sister to the Group 1 Irish Derby winner SOLDIER OF FORTUNE and was offered in foal to INTENSE FOCUS, the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes winner who Bolger trained.
