The three-year-old filly LADY MARIAN created a tremendous impression when winning the Group 1 Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp on Arc Day by an easy length and a half, defeating a top class field in the process including the multiple Group 1 winner LUSH LASHES as well as KATIYRA, TREAT GENTLY, MOONSTONE and YOU’RESOTHRILLING. Consigned to the sale by German agent Ronald Rauscher, LADY MARIAN was knocked down to Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor John Ferguson for 1,800,000 guineas after he saw off the efforts of Lodge Park Stud’s Seamus Burns and Californian trainer Paddy Gallagher. LADY MARIAN, who is out of the SHAREEF DANCER mare LA FELICITA, is a half-sister to the Listed winner LUCIDOR and has a ‘Timeform’ rating of 125. Ferguson indicated that the daughter of NAYEF would continue to race and join Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin Stable next year.
French Stud owner Andreas Putsch signed for the second highest priced filly for the day when acquiring the DANEHILL DANCER filly ANNA PAVLOVA for 650,000 guineas early in the evening. Consigned from Richard Fahey’s Musley Bank Stables, ANNA PAVLOVA has won on no fewer than ten occasions including six at Group/Listed level including the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks and Group 2 Prix de Royallieu. Putsch secured the daughter of the SURE BLADE mare WHEELER’S WONDER after seeing off the efforts of Shadai Farms’ Dr Atsushi Kato, Northern Farms’ Shunsuke Yoshida and a rarely defeated John Ferguson. Putsch indicated that the Timeform 117 rated ANNA PAVLOVA was purchased as a foundation broodmare for Haras de Saint Pair du Mont and would be mated with either DALAKHANI or MANDURO .
Earlier in the day Charlie Gordon-Watson purchased the MONSUN mare SANWA for 400,000 guineas after seeing off the efforts of BBA Germany’s Dirk Eisele and the French Bloodstock Agency’s Jean-Pierre Deroubaix. The daughter of the OLD VIC mare SACARINA is an own sister to a trio of Classic winners in the Group 1 Deutches Derby winning pair SCHIAPARELLI and SAMUM and to the Group 1 Preis der Diana winner SALVE REGINA. Consigned from Joe Hernon’s Castletown Stud with a cover to Juddmonte Farms’ DANSILI, SANWA was purchased by Gordon-Watson on behalf of Breeding Capital .
