The strong trade seen on the opening day of the Tattersalls continued into the second session which saw an increase in the standard of pedigree and subsequently, the prices realised for the select lots. Three lots sold for 100,000 guineas or more during the second session in the space of thirteen lots whilst the day totals saw 184 lots sell for 4,531,100 guineas. The average of 24,626 guineas and median of 17,750 guineas represented small falls on the corresponding session in 2009 whilst the clearance for the day was an impressive 83%.

The top lot on the second day was the PIVOTAL filly out of the Listed placed DR FONG mare MYSTERY OCEAN who was knocked down to Cheveley Park Stud’s Chris Richardson for 140,000 guineas. The filly, who was consigned from David and Juliet Minton’s Mill House Stud in Shropshire, is a three-parts sister to the Group 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas second PENKENNA PRINCESS and also caught the attention of Franny Woods, David Powell and underbidder Willie Browne.

It was Cheveley Park Stud’s first December Foal Sale purchase in six years and following his purchase Richardson commented; "This is a very nice filly and we are very pleased to be able to support Pivotal.

"This pedigree has already worked well with Pivotal through Penkenna Princess."

Richardson is certainly an enthusiast for the family, having purchased this filly’s ACCLAMATION half-sister at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 85,000 guineas.

The first lot to break the six-figure barrier at this year’s renewal of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale was the CAPE CROSS colt out of the MARK OF ESTEEM mare HONORINE. Consigned from Paul and Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud on behalf of Ashley House Stud, the colt is a half-brother to this year’s Group 2 Royal Lodge third TREASURE BEACH. Interest in the colt came initially from Lynn Lodge Stud’s Eddie O’Leary and Darley’s John Ferguson but the pair were usurped by Gill Richardson who secured the colt on behalf of Jon and Julia Aisbitt for 120,000 guineas. The couple have their horses with Mick Channon and this is the third year that they have bought a prospective racehorse as a foal.

"We lost count of the number of times we came to a yearling sale to buy one that Gill had marked out for us, only to fail to get the horse, despite bidding to a good mark," said Jon Aisbitt, who is chairman of investment company Man Group. "So we decided to buy our racehorses as foals. We send them to Lavington Stud and they do them very well."

"This really was a stand out for me," added Richardson. "He is a lovely going colt and has a good page."

The first foal on offer from the dual Group 1 winner TAMAYUZ hit the headlines when knocked down to Shadwell Estates’ Angus Gold for 110,000 guineas. Out of the ALZAO mare FROND, the filly is a sister to the Listed winning pair NASHMIAH and STREETS AHEAD. Gold secured the Deerpark Stud consigned filly at the expense of David Redvers and following his purchase commented; "She is obviously by a horse we know well, but the filly is also out of a very good mare who has done her bit with everything - with middle-distance stallions as well as with speed sires. In fact, the mare is going a long way making her own pedigree!

"This filly has a great attitude, she is a very positive filly. She is not over big, but I am told that none of the family have been too large.

"Of course, it is nice to support your own stallions, but you've got to like the stock too!".
