2010 October Yearling Sale Book 2 Day 3 Press Release

A filly from the first crop of Cheveley Park Stud’s DUTCH ART topped the third day of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale at 120,000 guineas and was one of six lots to sell for 100,000 guineas or more. The third day saw a total of 186 lots sell for 5,507,200 guineas at an average of 29,609 guineas and a median of 24,000 guineas. As things stand, with one session remaining, both the average and the median for the whole sale look set to remain the same as in 2009.

The sale of the DUTCH ART filly out of the DANETIME mare MISS OTIS provided a windfall for her breeder Anthea Gibson Fleming and partners who included agent Amanda Skiffington. Gibson Fleming bought MISS OTIS as a two-year-old at the 2006 Tattersalls December Mare Sale for 19,000 guineas and sent her to Cheveley Park Stud’s dual Group 1 winner DUTCH ART in her second season. Consigned from Tom Whelan’s Church View Stables, the filly was purchased by Shadwell Estates’ Angus Gold for 120,000 guineas after he saw off the efforts of agent Anthony Stroud.

Following the sale Gibson Fleming said; "She won just once but was a fast filly so we decided to breed from her. She comes from a fast family and (her half-brother) HOH HOH HOH continues to be successful.

"This filly has always been a beauty and she was prepped for the foal sale but did not go. She has been with Tom Whelan at Church View since December and he has done a great job with her. He has always loved her and has always thought that she was a racehorse.

"I really did not think she would make that much," laughed Gibson-Fleming, who was heading off to celebrate.

MV Magnier, son of Coolmore supremo John Magnier, has been prominent during Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and his 115,000 guineas purchase of the HURRICANE RUN colt out of the ROYAL ACADEMY mare MOUNTAIN CHAIN took his number of purchases this week to six for 757,000 guineas. Consigned from Gerry O'Sullevan’s Cooneen Stud in Co Tipperary, the colt is out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 Yellow Ribbon Handicap winner SPANISH FERN as well as to the dams of Group 1 Prix Jean Prat winner LORD SHANAKILL and Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap winner HEATSEEKER. Magnier secured the colt after a protracted duel with Dublin based agent Peter Doyle.

Irish trainer Charles O’Brien, standing with agent Margaret O’Toole, had to withstand the efforts of Newmarket handler William Haggas and Irish agent Hugo Merry to secure the PIVOTAL filly out of the POLISH PRECEDENT mare PINGUS for 105,000 guineas. PINGUS is a half-sister to the Listed winning pair NYRAMBA and CAPE AMBER and following the sale consignor Trickledown Stud’s Paul Thorman commented; "She has always been an outstanding filly. She is very correct and from a real fillies family. We are obviously delighted with the price."
