2010 October Yearling Sale Book 3 Day 2 Press Release
A son of DUTCH ART, Cheveley Park Stud’s Group 1 winning son of MEDICEAN, topped the two session second day of Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Trade over the morning and evening sessions saw a total of 141 lots sell for 700,900 guineas at an average of 4,971 guineas and a median of 2,500 guineas.
The top lot for the day was the DUTCH ART colt out of the winning ALI-ROYAL mare GREY PEARL. Consigned by John James’ Brookside Stud in Newmarket, the colt caught the attention of Matt Coleman of Anthony Stroud Bloodstock and BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe. The pair were no match though for Andrea Wilkinson who signed for the colt at 38,000 guineas. Wilkinson owns the GREY PEARL and was buying out James who was a part-owner of the DUTCH ART yearling.

Following her purchase, she commented; "Myself and my husband have always loved this horse," she said.
"He has always been lovely. The mare won four races for me, and she seems to be turning into a good broodmare - she has already produced SAKHEE'S PEARL, whom I own in partnership and who has won two races, as well as EXCEEDINGLY BOLD, who won as a two-year-old last year." .
A few lots earlier John Ferguson signed for the son of SHAMARDAL out of the GREEN DESERT mare GIORGIA RAE for 26,000 guineas. Consigned from Grove Farm Stud in Newmarket, the strapping colt caught the attention of a number of breeze-up vendors including Thormond O’Mara as well as Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown.
"He is a good strong sort and is also a son of SHAMARDAL, who has done extremely well," explained John Ferguson regarding his purchase of this Darley-sired colt for 26,000gns.
"His dam is a half-sister to ROWAASI, who was a very fast two-year-old. We go through all the sales catalogues and will always look at a horse whom we think will be worth a chance."
