Bargain Buy Samitar wins £300,000 Tattersalls Millions
Royal Ascot winner SAMITAR, who finished only a head behind Lyric of Light in last weekend’s Group 1 Fillies’ Mile was brought back to Newmarket Racecourses’ Rowley Mile for the £300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies’ Trophy and it proved to be a shrewd move by trainer Mick Channon with the filly winning the race nicely and collecting £162,000 in prize money. His son Mick commented after the race,
“We know the family well as we have trained many of her half brother and sisters – all of them thrive on racing. She is great as she is so versatile and can run from the front and the back, and Sam knows her well as he rides her at home, so he gave her a great race today. She looks the type to go for the Guineas next year.”
Samitar was bought for just 39,000 guineas at last year Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, by Gill Richardson and her half brother, by Sixties Icon, is scheduled to go through the ring in this year’s sale on Friday.
Richard Hannon’s Glee finished in second place for the second time in this Tattersalls Millions series with the heavily backed Hazel Lavery in third.
Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, featuring the only yearlings eligible for next year’s series takes place from 5th – 7th October.
