Details have been released of the consignors who have been appointed to handle the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal at Tattersalls. In total the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal at Tattersalls will number 48 lots comprising nine yearlings, nine foals, 16 fillies, colts and geldings in training, and 14 broodmares, with the team spread amongst four different consignors.

The nine Ballymacoll yearlings will be offered at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Egan family’s County Kildare based Corduff Stud which has regularly featured amongst the leading yearling consignors at Tattersalls since the 1980s. The eight yearlings sold at Book 1 of the 2016 Tattersalls  October Yearling Sale by Corduff Stud realised a total of 2,301,000 guineas at an average of 287,625 guineas and David Egan commented;

“Ballymacoll Stud is synonymous with the very highest level of thoroughbred racing and breeding and it is a huge honour to have been asked to play a part in a dispersal of such magnitude. The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale is the premier yearling sale in Europe and the appropriate stage for a team of such beautifully bred yearlings which includes daughters not only of the outstanding Ballymacoll Champion ISLINGTON, but also of the young Group winning duo ELEANORA DUSE and LIBER NAUTICUS.”

Following the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, the next instalment of the Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal will take place at the Autumn Horses in Training Sale and will feature three 2 year old colts, three 3 year old colts including the highly regarded PIVOINE, one 3 year old gelding and the multiple Group 3 winning seven year old entire ARAB SPRING. All eight will come from Sir Michael Stoute’s Freemason Lodge Stables, where so many of the great Ballymacoll colts were trained including Classic and Group 1 winners CONDUIT, GOLAN, NORTH LIGHT and PILSUDSKI.

The final crop of nine foals bred and reared under the watchful eye of long - serving Ballymacoll Stud manager Peter Reynolds, will be consigned at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale from Harry McCalmont’s Norelands Stud in Kilkenny. Consistently amongst the top consignors at the market - leading Tattersalls December Foal Sale, Norelands was leading consignor at the 2014 Tattersalls December Foal Sale and has been in the top five December foal consignors every year since 2011.

Commenting on the appointment, Harry McCalmont said;

“We always aim to bring a high class team to the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, but to have been entrusted with the nine Ballymacoll foals will make 2017 a very special year for Norelands Stud. When you look at the pedigrees you begin to appreciate the extraordinary success of Ballymacoll Stud and these foals represent the culmination of five decades of truly outstanding achievement.”

'Five decades of outstanding achievement' will culminate at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale where the eight fillies in training and 14 mares in foal will bring down the curtain on a glorious chapter in the history of thoroughbred racing and breeding. The Ballymacoll team of 22, headed by the four time Group 1 winner ISLINGTON in foal to KINGMAN and five of her daughters, will be consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment whose Tattersalls roll of honour includes sale toppers at both Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale and the December Mares Sale.

Speaking on behalf of the Castlebridge Consignment, Director Bill Dwan said;

“Ballymacoll Stud represents the pinnacle of achievement in the world of thoroughbred racing and breeding. To have produced 30 individual Group 1 winners is truly extraordinary and a magnificent tribute to Peter Reynolds, the Weinstock family and all at Ballymacoll. To have been chosen to consign the Ballymacoll mares and fillies at the Tattersalls December Sale is a proud accolade for the Castlebridge Consignment.”

Ballymacoll Stud manager Peter Reynolds commented;

“Ballymacoll Stud has always been about the pursuit of excellence and this is reflected in our choice of consignors for the Dispersal at Tattersalls. Corduff Stud, Norelands Stud and the Castlebridge Consignment are all hugely respected throughout the industry, while Sir Michael Stoute has been an integral part of the Ballymacoll story having won his first Group 1 for Ballymacoll Stud when HELLENIC won the 1990 Yorkshire Oaks. We are looking forward to working with all of them and also Liz Moloney of Paramount Sales in Kentucky who will be playing an active role in the Dispersal.”
