Craven Breeze Up Buy Brando Wins Group 1 for Kevin Ryan
The Kevin Ryan-trained BRANDO scored a breakthrough Group 1 victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday. The five-year-old son of PIVOTAL was winning for the seventh time, and the third time at Group level, but scoring at the highest level for the first time under jockey Tom Eaves.
BRANDO was sold twice at Tattersalls, the first time at Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Horse Park Stud for 52,000 guineas from the draft of breeder Car Colston Hall Stud. He was then re-offered at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale by Church Farm Stables where he was purchased by trainer Kevin Ryan and agent Stephen Hillen for 115,000 guineas on behalf of his current owner Mrs Angie Bailey.
Out of the SILVER HAWK mare ARGENT DU BOIS, BRANDO is a half-brother to the multiple Grade 1 winner TICKER TAPE as well as to the dam of Champion two and three-year-old RECKLESS ABANDON. Car Colston Hall Stud will offer a CAPE CROSS half-brother to BRANDO and TICKER TAPE at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
The efforts of runner-up ACLAIM and third TUPI in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest also provided significant catalogue updates for their siblings catalogued for Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Cooneen Stud offers a SLADE POWER half-sister to ACLAIM whilst Camas Park Stud offers a CAMELOT half-sister to TUPI.
With the publication of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale catalogues just two weeks away, racing at the ‘Qatar Goodwood Festival’ on Friday provided a timely reminder of the quality to be found at the sale with three of the four Group races won by October Yearling Sale purchases. The Group 3 Glorious Stakes fell the way of 300,000 guineas purchase POET’S WORD, the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes went to Andrew Balding’s highly progressive BEAT THE BANK who cost just 30,000 guineas at Book 2 and BATTAASH, a 200,000 guineas purchase marked himself as another sprinting star for trainer Charlie Hills when emphatically winning the Group 2 King George Stakes.
The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place from October 3rd to 14th, with Book 1 from October 3rd – 5th, Book 2 from October 9th – 11th and Book 3 taking place from October 12th – 14th.
