Debora’s Dream Tops Tattersalls September Sale
Debora’s Dream topped the one-day Tattersalls September Sale at 80,000 guineas, with turnover just short of two million guineas, ten lots selling for 40,000 guineas or more and a clearance rate just below 80%.
Clare Dolan Purchases Debora’s Dream for 80,000 Guineas
DEBORA’S DREAM, the three-year-old colt by SIOUX NATION who was consigned to the Tattersalls September Sale by Baroda Stud on behalf of trainer Roger Varian and owner Opulence Thoroughbreds, was knocked down to Alan O’Keeffe for 80,000 guineas. O’Keeffe, who is assistant to dual-purpose trainer Jennie Candlish, bought the colt on behalf of owner Clare Dolan. A winner of two of his last three starts, DEBORA’S DREAM was offered with a Timeform rating of 96.
"He looks like he will be a nice horse for next year, his profile looks progressive, he has been bought for a new owner and we are hoping he will be lucky," said O'Keeffe. "He has won on the Turf and the All-Weather and we think he can go on. He has come from a good yard, Roger's horses tend to keep progressing.
"It was a tad more than we had thought we'd need to spend, but when they have this sort of rating you have to go somewhere in that region."
DEBORA’S DREAM was purchased by Richard Ryan & Opulence Thoroughbred for 40,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale last year.
70,000 Guineas Purchase God Of Fire Set for Dual-Purpose Future
The MUHAARAR gelding GOD OF FIRE looks set for a dual-purpose future after he was knocked down to Chris Dixon for 70,000 guineas on behalf of Jonjo O'Neill Racing. The Daniel and Claire Kubler trained four-year-old, who was consigned by Baroda Stud, had won three of his previous four starts and was offered with a Timeform rating of 97.
"Jonjo rang and asked me to give him a shout when we were doing the catalogue if we saw anything that could do a job hurdling, so we put this horse forward," explained Dixon. "He has obviously progressed nicely since Dan and Claire have had him on the Flat, he has got a winning hurdler in his pedigree, the only one who has tried it.
"Muhaarar has had a few good jumpers over the last year or so and he might be one of those who make a bit of an impact as a jumps stallion with the right type of horse; I do think he is a good and underrated stallion."
Dixon added: "He looks like the type of horse, he is not old, who could do well in novice hurdles and then go handicapping. Jonjo also did say that they are keen to have an odd horse who could run back on the Flat and this horse has got a high enough Flat rating to get in some nice races."
The Kublers purchased GOD OF FIRE at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale for 42,000 guineas.
Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of the 2024 Tattersalls September Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“This is the fifth edition of a sale that was introduced in 2020 as a response to the COVID related delay to the flat season and numerically the smallest, and whilst we may have been short of obvious stars, there has been solid trade throughout the day from both domestic buyers and those from further afield. International buyers always play a significant part at Tattersalls horses in training sales, particularly those from the Gulf, but there has also been a vibrant domestic market including plenty of interest from the National Hunt community.
“We now look forward to Books 1 to 4 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, whose graduates have enjoyed spectacular global success in recent months and we look forward to welcoming an international cast of buyers to Park Paddocks during the fortnight that begins with Europe’s Premier Yearling Sale.”
