Farne Tops Tattersalls May 5th Online Sale
The Tattersalls Online May 5th Sale saw spirited competition for the diverse range of bloodstock on offer and was topped by the 50,000 guineas sale of the National Hunt mare FARNE to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock.
Consigned by Noel Williams’ Churn Stables, the Stakes-placed eight-year-old daughter of STOWAWAY finished third in a Listed NH Flat Race as well as fourth in the Grade 2 Nickel Coin Mares NH Flat Race at Aintree. She then went on to win over obstacles and this season finish third in the Listed Lady Godiva Mares’ Novices Chase.
“She has been bought for an existing client to initially race on and then breed from in the future,” commented successful purchaser Matt Coleman.
The Godolphin consigned TEODOLINA was another lot to find favour in the sale, appealing to an array of bidders and fetching a price of 40,000 guineas from Kilkenny based Clara Stud. The winning four-year-old daughter of Champion European Sire and multiple Group One producer KODIAC finished fourth as a two-year-old in the Listed Montrose Stakes.
“We bred and sold her as a foal. We still have her mum here at home who has bred some very nice and good-looking stock that have gone well for us,” said Clara Stud’s James Cloney on the purchase of the well-related filly. “We retained her Lawman half-sister who went to Tally-Ho Stud’s Starman this year. This mare may go back in training. We will get her home and make sure she is safe and sound and if all things are right, she may go for an autumn campaign.”
Commenting on the overall experience of purchasing via the Tattersalls Online platform, Cloney added:
“The experience was very good. It shows a great opportunity to be able trade horses without having to wait until the end of the year so I think it will be a beneficial platform for fillies and potential broodmares for the future.”
Demand was strong for the breeding rights in the sale. Dash Grange Stud emerged as the successful purchaser of both lots on offer, striking at 40,000 guineas for the breeding right to Classic producing sire ACLAIM and 25,000 for a breeding right to Group 1 King’s Stand winner PROFITABLE.
The Wildcard entry of the breeding right to the Group One producing sire ACLAIM, who stands at the National Stud, was a timely addition to the sale following the emphatic win of first-crop daughter CACHET in Sunday’s 1000 Guineas for George Boughey and Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.
Similarly, progeny of Godolphin’s Kildangan based PROFITABLE recently added more black type success to his tally following the triumph of MIRAMAR who reigned supreme in the Group 3 Prix Sigy at Chantilly on April 20.
Jayne McGivern of Dash Grange Stud, who have typically been breeders of quality National Hunt mares, said they were looking to diversify their operation in the future:
“As breeders of National Hunt, I saw this as a fantastic opportunity. These are both fantastic young up and coming stallions and I just could not let this opportunity pass by, not only as an investment but also to start looking into the other side of the market. These boys are, albeit, for the Flat but when you see the likes of Aclaim coming through it is an opportunity not to pass up.”
McGivern was hugely complimentary of purchasing via the Tattersalls Online platform:
“It’s fantastic, really good, really easy to use. I was very happy using it.”
The next Tattersalls Online sale is scheduled to take place on Friday 10th of June, in advance of the Royal Ascot meeting. Applications for entry to the sale are now being welcomed by email to tattersallsonline@tattersalls.com.
