Glenfinnan Wins 300th £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus
£7,125,000 in prize money paid out to owners
The Andrew Balding trained GLENFINNAN ran out an easy winner of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden at Yarmouth, winning a £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus for his owners Mick and Janice Mariscotti. His win represented a significant milestone as the 300th winner of a Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus with a massive £7,125,000 in bonus prize money paid out to owners.
GLENFINNAN, a son of first season sire HARRY ANGEL, was purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Andrew Balding for 100,000 guineas from the draft of Glidawn Stud.
The winner's co-owner Mick Mariscotti, who purchased recent Group 2 Doncaster Cup winner COLTRANE for 50,000 guineas at October Book 1, was understandably thrilled with the result:
“This is the fourth £20,000 October Book 1 Bonus that we have won and it’s a great incentive for owners, especially in times when the lack of prizemoney is such an issue. We buy at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale because it is proven as the best sale to buy a top-class racehorse, of which Coltrane is a great example. However, the icing on the cake is that if we win a Book 1 Bonus, it goes a long way towards paying for the training fees for the year.”
Trainer Andrew Balding was winning his 16th Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus and commented:
