The catalogue for the three day inaugural Tattersalls August Sale, which takes place Monday 24th - Wednesday 26th August, is now online and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com. Numbering 774 lots, the Tattersalls August Sale comprises 541 colts and geldings in/out of training, 214 fillies in/out of training, as well as 19 broodmares, and is headed by the very smart dual Group 2 winner THREAT.
Trained by Richard Hannon for owners Cheveley Park Stud, THREAT emerged as one of the top two-year-old colts in Europe last year following victories in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York and the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. Campaigned exclusively at Group 1 and 2 levels since making an impressive winning debut in May last year, the three-year-old son of FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND, originally purchased for 100,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, currently boasts an official BHA rating of 112 and is the highest rated horse in training in the catalogue.
Very similar in format to the ever - popular July Sale, the new Tattersalls August Sale has been introduced in response to the unique COVID-19 related circumstances which both vendors and purchasers have encountered, and has attracted significant consignments from many of the world’s leading owner/breeders including Ballydoyle Stables, Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms, Rabbah Bloodstock and Shadwell Stud, as well as top established consignors the Castlebridge Consignment and Jamie Railton.
While the top class THREAT sets the standard, the August catalogue features a host of other highly rated performers which look set to attract the attention of buyers from throughout the world, including the recent Listed winning three-year-old colt SURF DANCER, coming from William Haggas’s Somerville Lodge Stables and the regally bred three-year-old Listed winning WAR FRONT colt FORT MYERS, who is one of a team of nine smart three and four-year-old colts catalogued from Ballydoyle Stables.
Consignments from Juddmonte Farms are always amongst the highlights of similar sales at Tattersalls and the inaugural August Sale has a team of 24 Juddmonte breds, including the Group/Listed placed duo BREATH OF AIR and GEORGEVILLE as well as a number of well-bred fillies including NARRATE, the DANSILI own sister to Stakes winners RUNNYMEDE and STIPULATE, and SOPHISTRY, the MAKE BELIEVE half-sister to Group 1 winning two-year-old EPICURIS.
Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum is enjoying an outstanding year, currently riding high atop the owners table in the UK, and his Shadwell Stud have 61 lots catalogued comprising 41 geldings in/out of training, 11 colts in/out of training, seven fillies in/out of training and two mares in foal. Amongst the horses in training are ELWAZIR, a 100 rated son of FRANKEL trained by Owen Burrows, and a duo of improving three-year-olds, ATHEEB and MAQTAL, both winners of their latest starts for trainers Sir Michael Stoute and Roger Varian respectively.
Horses in training from the Godolphin and Rabbah teams will also undoubtedly be highly sought after and between them they have 71 lots catalogued amongst a number of different trainers, including the 107 rated four-year-old WALKINTHESAND, coming from Richard Hannon’s East Everleigh Stables and COUNTRY, a 95 rated son of DUBAWI trained by William Haggas.
The largest consignment comes from the Castlebridge Consignment who have a formidable team of 79 including eye-catching highly rated three-year-olds CANAGAT, CELESTRAN, ELECTRIC LADYLAND, GALSWORTHY, MAYSTAR, OLEKSANDER, ON GUARD, SHARED BELIEF and TO NATHANIEL, all of whom have current official ratings between 84 and 96. Amongst the 41 lots catalogued from agent Jamie Railton are a trio of decent winning two-year-olds comprising the colts DELIVER THE DREAM and EBEKO as well as the Listed placed filly POM MALPIC. Commenting on the catalogue for the inaugural Tattersalls August Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“The COVID related circumstances surrounding the decision to introduce a Tattersalls August Sale are well documented and we have been hugely encouraged by both the quality and quantity of entries. Originally pencilled in for two days, we have extended the sale to three days to accommodate the number of entries and the catalogue has the strength and depth that will appeal to a wide cross section of buyers, both domestic and further afield. Despite the current challenges, our recent July Sale achieved a phenomenal 96% clearance rate which demonstrates the enduring appeal of sales of this nature at Tattersalls, and we have already received extremely positive feedback from our myriad of overseas markets."
