Kingston Hill Heads Group 1 Double for Tattersalls Graduates
Tattersalls graduates scored a memorable double on both sides of the Irish Sea with KINGSTON HILL winning the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster and FIESOLANA winning the Group 1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on the opening day of Irish Champions weekend.
The Roger Varian-trained KINGSTON HILL scored an inaugural Classic victory for his trainer when winning the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster. The son of MASTERCRAFTSMAN led home a Tattersalls October Yearling Sale 1-2 after ROMSDAL completed the forecast.
KINGSTON HILL was purchased at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 70,000 guineas by London-based agent Charlie Gordon-Watson on behalf of owner Paul Smith from the draft of Woodcote Stud. ROMSDAL was purchased by John Ferguson for 65,000 guineas from Jamie Railton.
KINGSTON HILL’s victory was the fourth Classic victory in 2014 in Britain and Ireland for the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, following on from the 2,000 Guineas win of 32,000 guineas purchase NIGHT OF THUNDER and the English and Irish Derby wins of AUSTRALIA.
In Ireland, five-year-old mare FIESOLANA led home a Tattersalls 1-2 in the Group 1 Matron Stakes when defeating October Book 2 graduate RIZEENA. FIESOLANA was bought by Flaxman Stables for 960,000 guineas at the 2013 Tattersalls December Mare Sale from Ballyphilip Stables.
