Magnus Maximus Wins £100,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint
Richard Hannon saddled MAGNUS MAXIMUS to win the 13 runner £100,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse today, the fifth race of the 2013/14 £1.3 million Tattersalls Millions series.
The son of HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR was bought by Amanda Skiffington for 190,000 guineas from the 2012 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 from Lofts Hall Stud and has given his owners Carmichael Humber their first winner in the Tattersalls Millions sales race series. Carmichael Humber have had much success on the racecourse having previously owned many horses including HAVANA GOLD who was second in the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2-Y-O Trophy in 2012.
After the race Richard Hannon commented, “That was a pleasant surprise but he’s always shown a fair bit. I thought he would want a mile and that six furlongs would be far too sharp but, to be fair to the horse, he never really looked like getting beaten. He’s obviously done very well over the winter and I thought Pat (Dobbs) gave him a lovely ride. We’ll get him home and see where we go from there. I think seven furlongs to a mile might be his trip but we can diversify a bit with that. He’s run a very nice race there anyway.”
TOOFI, winner of the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy, was second for Roger Varian, with NAADIRR for Marco Botti in third.
A half-brother to MAGNUS MAXIMUS by EXCEED AND EXCEL is Lot 73 in tonight’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale.
There is one more race in the 2013/14 Tattersalls Millions sales race series, the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy, which takes place tomorrow.
