New Milestone for the Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus
The £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus recorded a notable milestone on Saturday afternoon with the Ralph Beckett-trained FEIGNING MADNESS claiming the 340th Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus, 149 of which have been purchased for 150,000 guineas or less. The son of ULYSSES came home best at Newbury under Hector Crouch in the seven furlong EBF Novice Stakes for owners Valmont. The victory was his trainer’s 11th Book 1 Bonus win since the lucrative scheme’s inauguration in 2016.
The ULYSSES colt is a half-brother to Listed Star Stakes winner DANCE IN THE GRASS and was bought for 170,000 guineas by Alex Elliott at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the draft of Minster Enterprises.
2023 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus winners have been purchased for as little as 52,000 guineas and this year’s roll of honour includes the Group 2 Coventry Stakes winner RIVER TIBER, the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes winner LAKE FOREST and Group 2 Champions Juvenile Stakes winner and current Group 1 Futurity Trophy Stakes favourite DIEGO VELAZQUEZ.
Tattersalls are set to increase the value of the October Book 1 Bonuses from £20,000 to £25,000 next year, with all yearlings catalogued for Book 1 of the 2023 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale eligible for the lucrative scheme. The number of qualifying races is greater than 300 and Tattersalls have paid out almost £8,000,000 in October Book 1 bonuses since the scheme was originally launched.
