October Book 1 Sale Topper Was Lands Oaks

WAS, the highest priced yearling sold in Europe in 2010 when realising 1.2 million guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, carved her name in the history books with an outstanding triumph in the Investec Oaks at Epsom.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, the regally bred daughter of GALILEO out of the GREEN DESERT mare ALLURING PARK was bred by Seamus Burns at his Lodge Park Stud in Co. Kilkenny and was knocked down to Demi O'Byrne on behalf of owners Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier and Michael Tabor. ALLURING PARK is a Listed placed half sister to the outstanding 2008 Derby winner NEW APPROACH out of the Champion racemare PARK EXPRESS.

Making only her third racecourse appearance, WAS became the fourth Oaks winner for her trainer Aidan O'Brien and the same owner/trainer combination will line up again for the Investec Derby with odds on favourite CAMELOT, another purchase from Book 1 of the 2010 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. 

To date in 2012 Tattersalls October Book 1 purchases have carried all before them with WAS being the fourth 2012 British and Irish Classic winner following CAMELOT (525,000 guineas), POWER (50,000 guineas) and SAMITAR (39,000 guineas) who landed the 2000 Guineas, Irish 2000 Guineas and Irish 1000 Guineas respectively.

Looking ahead, the yearling own sister to WAS is likely to be one of the highlights of Book 1 of the 2012 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale where she looks set to head the customary outstanding Lodge Park Stud consignment.
