Outstanding Broodmare Kensea to be Offered in Tattersalls December Sceptre Sessions
Outstanding broodmare KENSEA, the dam of Group 1 winners SEALIWAY and SUNWAY, is to be offered as a ‘Wildcard’ in the Tuesday 5th December Sceptre Session of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale which takes place December 4th - 7th.
Owned and bred by Champion French owner/breeder Guy Pariente, KENSEA is by Pariente’s top class sire KENDARGENT out of the winning GOLD AWAY mare SEA ISLAND and is in foal to the young proven Group 1 sire ZARAK to a 29th March cover. The only dam of two Group 1 winners to be offered at public auction anywhere in the world this year, KENSEA will be consigned from James Hanly’s Ballyhimikin Stud and will be offered as lot 1825, the final lot of the flagship Sceptre Session on Tuesday 5th December.
Herself a high class race filly, KENSEA won two races as a two year old including the Listed Prix Herod at Chantilly and has gone on to establish herself as an exceptional broodmare producing four winners from four runners to date including the Group 1 winning duo SEALIWAY and SUNWAY, both Group 1 winners at two and both by Pariente’s stallion GALIWAY who stands alongside KENDARGENT at Haras de Colleville.
SEALIWAY was crowned Champion French two year old colt in 2020 having won the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere by eight lengths. He confirmed his star status as a three year old when second to the Ballydoyle five time Group 1 winner ST MARK’S BASILICA in the Prix du Jockey Club before ending his three year old season winning the Group 1 Champion Stakes at Ascot.
KENSEA’s two year old son SUNWAY has already emulated his older brother as a Group 1 winning two year old having won a high class renewal of the Group 1 Criterium International over a mile at Saint-Cloud earning himself an official rating of 113 and the accolade of ‘a colt for the Classics’ from his trainer David Menuisier. Prior to his Group 1 win SUNWAY had already stamped himself as a very smart colt when second in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster behind IBERIAN, with subsequent Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner ROSALLION back in third.
Commenting on KENSEA, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“Kensea is a very rare commodity and represents an almost unique opportunity for breeders from throughout the world to acquire the dam of two Group 1 winners at a relatively young age. She is not only a magnificent tribute to the hugely successful breeding operation that Guy Pariente has developed in France, but also in foal to one of Europe’s most exciting young sires and can be mated to any of the world’s leading stallions. Kensea is the complete package and will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of a Tattersalls December Mares Sale which as ever promises to showcase the finest mares and fillies to a global audience."
