Pierre Lapin Stars as Tattersalls October Book 1 Purchases Dominate at Newbury
With Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale just around the corner, the Roger Varian trained PIERRE LAPIN and the David Simcock trained DESERT ENCOUNTER provided timely reminders of the quality and value to be found at Europe’s premier yearling sale.
Sheikh Mohamed Obaid’s two-year-old colt PIERRE LAPIN looked a horse for the future when running out a dominant winner of the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. The CAPPELLA SANSEVERO half-brother to dual Group 1 winning sprinter HARRY ANGEL was having only his second career start and proved too good for the Superlative Stakes winner MYSTERY POWER and Rose Bowl Stakes winner SHADN.
PIERRE LAPIN was purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 140,000 guineas by trainer Roger Varian from the draft of Paul and Marie McCartan’s Ballyphilip Stud.
The David Simcock trained DESERT ENCOUNTER made it a Newbury Group race double for October Book 1 purchases when winning the Group 3 Legacy Cup in sublime style under Jamie Spencer. The Grade 1 winning son of HALLING was winning the Legacy Cup for the second time, having scored in 2017 and has now won at Group/Listed level on seven occasions. DESERT ENCOUNTER was purchased for just 32,000 guineas by Rabbah Bloodstock at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale from the draft of Tally Ho Stud who offer his VADAMOS half-sister at this year’s renewal as lot 382.
Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place from October 8 – 10 and features the only yearlings eligible for the £25,000 October Book 1 Bonus which has paid out prize money of £4,575,000 for the 183 winners so far. Catalogues are out now and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives.
