The Tattersalls December Sale got underway at Park Paddocks in Newmarket with the one-day December Yearling Sale which saw solid trade and a record median. A total of 150 lots were sold for 3,766,300 guineas, up 5% on the 2010 sale, at an average of 25,109 guineas and a median of 20,500 guineas which represented rises of 36% and 128% respectively. The median figure was a remarkable one as is was 37% higher than the previous record median set in 2007. There were also a further 7 lots sold privately for a total of 109,550 guineas.

The top lot at the December Yearling Sale was the MONTJEU colt out of the WAR CHANT mare GHURRA who was knocked down to David Redvers for 150,000 guineas. Consigned from Castledillon Stud in Ireland, the bay colt saw a spirited bidding duel between Redvers and Stud Farm 711’s Anani Antoniadis with the former prevailing on behalf of Sheikh Fahad’s Pearl Bloodstock.
