Riskit Fora Biskit Tops Strong Opening Day at Tattersalls July Sale
The Listed winning mare RISKIT FORA BISKIT was the star attraction on the opening day of the Tattersalls July Sale, selling for 230,000 guineas on what was a very strong start to Europe’s leading midsummer sale. The turnover for the day jumped 30% to 4,213,700 guineas, for the 205 lots sold which represented the highest opening day turnover at this sale since 2008. The average of 20,555 guineas was up 29% on last year’s figures, whilst the median rose 41% to 12,000 guineas.
RISKIT FORA BISKIT, who won five races including the Listed Prix Du Cercle under the tutelage of trainer Michael Bell, was offered by Chris Wright’s Stratford Place Stud. The five-year-old daughter of KODIAC is a half-sister to the Group race performers CROWN PROSECUTOR and FOX TROTTER, while her second dam PREPONDERANCE is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed DHANYATA. She was offered in foal to Yeomanstown Stud’s DARK ANGEL whose progeny have been on fire in 2015, with no less than 21 Group/Listed performers.
Bidding kicked off at 100,000 guineas and quickly went up through the ranks with Carmel Stud, Liam Norris and Suzanne Roberts all taking a keen interest in proceedings. In the end it was Stroud Coleman’s Anthony Stroud, standing in the bidders area who won the day, seeing off agent Stephen Hillen to secure the mare for 230,000 guineas.
"She is for The Ed Stud," said Stroud. "She was a good racehorse, has a nice page and is on a good cover."
Houghton Bloodstock’s Robin Sharp went to 105,000 guineas to secure the nine-year-old RED RANSOM mare SCARLETT EMPIRE. The half-sister to the four-time Group 1 winner SKY LANTERN was consigned from the Dwayne and Wendyll Woods’ Brook Stud and offered in foal to Whitsbury Manor Stud’s exciting young stallion SHOWCASING.
"She is for a new client and is coming back to the farm," said Sharp.
"She has a lovely page and has just been unlucky. Her first foal Danchai was very good and Scarlett Empire has been well covered."
SCARLETT EMPIRE’s first foal is the Listed winning, Group placed DANCHAI.
Two other fillies to break 100,000 guineas for the day were the MONTJEU filly TAUTOU MONTJEU and the SIR PERCY filly PERNICA. TAUTOU MONTJEU, whose great grand-dam is the legendary foundation mare REPROCOLOR was knocked down to David Redvers for 100,000 guineas. PERNICA, offered in foal to DREAM AHEAD, is from the classic Wildenstein family that includes Group 1 winners VIN DE FRANCE, VALLEE ENCHANTEE and VESPONE and was bought by Dennis Brosnan’s Epona Bloodstock for 100,000 guineas.
Late in the evening Hamad Al Attiyah, President of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, secured the two-year-old colt BARBAROUS RELIC for 170,000 guineas after seeing off fellow Qatari Jassim Ghazali and agent Jamie Lloyd. Consigned from Karl Burke’s Spigot Lodge Stables, the son of SCAT DADDY has raced only three times and was a running on fourth in the Listed Dragon Stakes last Friday at his most recent start.
"We wanted a colt with some ability and to go to Goodwood fits in well with our new sponsorship at the racecourse," said Al Attiyah.
The Tattersalls July Sale continues at 9.30am on Thursday, July 9th.
