Tattersalls Graduate Treasure Beach Wins Group 1 Irish Derby
TREASURE BEACH became the 11th Tattersalls Group 1 winning graduate for the year when he ran out a deserved winner of the Irish Derby. The son of GALILEO was only narrowly beaten by POUR MOI when second in The Derby at Epsom and has now won four of his eight races just short of 1 million pounds in prizemoney.
TREASURE BEACH is the fifth Group 1 winning graduate this year from the Tattersalls December Foal Sale and the third Classic winner in the last three years alongside fellow Irish Derby victor and stablemate FAME AND GLORY and last year’s Irish 1000 Guineas winner BETHRAH. The third horse home in the Irish Derby, MEMPHIS TENNESSEE, is also a graduate of the December Foal Sale where he was purchased for 72,000 guineas before being re-sold for 150,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
TREASURE BEACH was bought by Timmy Hyde’s Camas Park Stud at the 2008 Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 180,000 guineas from Paul and Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud. The Hampshire based nursery offered the colt out of HONORINE on behalf of Brian and Jane Hammond’s Ashley House Stud that had purchased HONORINE for 50,000 guineas as a filly in training at the 2004 Tattersalls December Mare Sale. The daughter of MARK OF ESTEEM has a yearling by CAPE CROSS who sold for 120,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale last year, a filly foal by AUTHORIZED and is in foal to GALILEO’s Derby winning son NEW APPROACH.
The next sale at Tattersalls is the July Sale and takes place from July 6 – 8. Catalogues are out now and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives and online at www.tattersalls.com
