Tattersalls Graduates Dominate Glorious Goodwood
Tattersalls graduates dominated the Qatar Goodwood Festival winning sixteen races across the five days, five times more than any other sales company, with eleven of those being bought at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Leading the way was the Group 2 Richmond Stakes winner MEHMAS. The Richard Hannon-trained son of ACCLAMATION has won four of his six starts for owners Al Shaqab Racing and looks certain to head for a Group 1 engagement in the autumn. MEHMAS was originally sold at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by breeder Croom House Stud where he was purchased by Church Farm for 62,000 guineas. He was then resold at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale by Horse Park Stud for 170,000 guineas to Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock.
Another Book 2 purchase to score was the four-year-old AZAMOUR filly CALIFORNIA who took out the Group 3 Lillie Langtry Stakes. The John Gosden-trained filly was another success for Denis Brosnan’s Croom House Stud who bred her with Patsy Byrne and consigned her to Book 2 where she was purchased by Prince Faisal Salman’s Denford Stud for 75,000 guineas.
Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale continued to dominate the Group races when THIKRIYAAT took out of Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes for owner Sheikh Hamdan. The son of AZAMOUR was another bargain purchase from the sale, being bought by Shadwell Estates for 70,000 guineas from the draft of Peter and Antoinette Kavanagh’s Kildaragh Stud who also bred the filly.
The successful week at Goodwood complimented last weekend’s Book 1 success in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes by HIGHLAND REEL and the nine winners during July of the £25,000 October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ which were bookended by the exciting FRANKEL colt SEVEN HEAVENS and the smart EXCEED AND EXCEL colt LOCKHEED who collected a massive £48,672 for his Maiden victory on the last day at Goodwood.
Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place October 4 – 6.
