Tattersalls Graduates Dominate Royal Ascot
Tattersalls and Tattersalls Ireland purchases dominated the five-day Royal Ascot meeting winning thirteen races in total, more than double all other sales companies combined, headlined by the victory of €8,500 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale purchase LETHAL FORCE in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Tattersalls October yearling sale purchases also dominated, winning eleven races, more than twice the number of all other yearling sales combined with Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale leading the way with six winners.
Tattersalls October yearling purchases also dominated the two-year-old races, winning three of the six juvenile contests. Leading the way was the Clive Brittain-trained RIZEENA who was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes. The daughter of IFFRAAJ was purchased by Rabbah Bloodstock at Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale for 50,000 guineas from Round Hill Stud and is now as short as 14-1 for next year’s 1,000 Guineas. Equally impressive was the Qatar Racing owned KIYOSHI who ran away with the Group 3 Albany Stakes. The Charlie Hills-trained daughter of DUBAWI is also a graduate of October Book 2 where she was purchased by David Redvers Bloodstock for 80,000 guineas from the draft of Ladyswood Stud. She is now favourite and as short as 7-1 for the 1,000 Guineas next year. The third of the winning Tattersalls two-year-olds was the Paul Cole-trained BERKSHIRE who ran out an impressive winner of the Listed Chesham Stakes and is now second favourite and as short as 14-1 for 2014 2,000 Guineas. The son of MOUNT NELSON is another fine advertisement for October Book 2 where he was purchased by his trainer for 60,000 guineas from the draft of Newsells Park Stud.
Graduates of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale accounted for six winners throughout the week, led by the ill-fated THOMAS CHIPPENDALE (375,000 gns) who tragically suffered a heart-attack moments after bravely winning the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes for Lady Cecil and Sir Robert Ogden. The Aidan O’Brien-trained LEADING LIGHT (520,000 gns) emerged as a live St Leger candidate with a gutsy victory in the Group 3 Queen’s Vase, his fourth win from five starts. Other October 1 winners for the week included FORGOTTEN VOICE (230,000 gns) in the Listed Wolferton Handicap, Well Sharp (80,000 gns) in the Ascot Stakes, OPINION (210,000 gns) in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap and CHIBERTA KING (30,000 gns) in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.
The Tattersalls Royal Ascot roll-of-honour was completed by the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes winner DUNTLE who was sold at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 78,000 guineas, the King George V Stakes winner ELIDOR who was also purchased at the December Foal Sale for 120,000 guineas and BELGIAN BILL, winner of the Royal Hunt Cup, who was purchased at October Book 2 for 55,000 guineas.
