Tattersalls Group 1 Treble at Flemington & Meydan
Tattersalls purchases enjoyed an international Group 1 treble on Saturday, with HARLEM and REDKIRK WARRIOR scoring a Group 1 double at Flemington, followed by victory for NORTH AMERICA on Super Saturday at Meydan in Dubai.
Kicking things off in Australia was the top class sprinter REDKIRK WARRIOR who won his second Group 1 Newmarket Handicap for co-trainers David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig. Following on from his victory over REDZEL in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes last month, the son of NOTNOWCATO is arguably Australia’s top sprinter. REDKIRK WARRIOR, who races in the colours of Edmund Lee, was purchased at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 22,000 guineas by Jill Lamb Bloodstock from the consignment of the late Lenore Peacock’s Manor House Stud in Yorkshire. A date at Royal Ascot now beckons.
A memorable day quickly became a remarkable one for the Hong Kong-based Lee when HARLEM, who he part owns and who also carries his silks, scored a 60-1 upset in the $1,500,000 Australian Cup. HARLEM, who is also trained by David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, was purchased for 520,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale by SackvilleDonald’s Alastair Donald and Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer. The son of CHAMPS ELYSEES was consigned by Juddmonte Farms, whose successes at the highest level in Australia include fellow Autumn Horses in Training Sale graduates FORETELLER and STAND TO GAIN.
Completing the trio of Group 1 victories on Saturday was the Satish Seemar-trained NORTH AMERICA who ran out an impressive winner of the Al Maktoum Challenge at Meydan racecourse. The six-year-old son of DUBAWI was purchased at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 100,000 guineas by John Ferguson Bloodstock from the draft of Tweenhills Farm & Stud.
The next sale at Tattersalls is the Craven Breeze Up Sale which takes place from April 16 - 18. Catalogues are online now at www.tattersalls.com and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives.
