Tattersalls HIT Group 1 Double for Trainer Chris Waller
The Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale confirmed its status as the leading sale of its type in the world following a Group 1 double in Australia today with STAND TO GAIN and MY KINGDOM OF FIFE. The pair are trained by Sydney-based trainer Chris Waller who scored a memorable double when winning the Group 1 Sydney Cup and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes respectively with the pair.
Waller recorded his first Group 1 win of the day when MY KINGDOM OF FIFE held off the Group 1 Doncaster winner SACRED CHOICE to win the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, scoring his second win from his only Australian starts. MY KINGDOM OF FIFE was purchased at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale by Kern Lillingston's Alastair Donald for 60,000 guineas. Donald, who has now set up his own agency SackvilleDonald, bought the son of KINGMAMBO out of the FAIRY KING mare FAIRY GODMOTHER on behalf of Australian based owner Richard Pegum and the gelding now has earnings of almost $600,000 following his victory.
Waller recorded the second leg of his Group 1 double when STAND TO GAIN won the Group 1 Sydney Cup after gaining late entry to the race following a scratching earlier in the day. The son of HAWK WING was purchased by Waller at the 2009 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale for 105,000 guineas and beat his more fancied stablemate HAWK ISLAND (also a Tattersalls Horses in Training graduate) who fell on the home turn.
Waller has been coming to the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale since 2006 alongside agent Guy Mulcaster and veterinarian Tim Roberts and the team has had a remarkable strike rate with their purchases highlighted by this Group 1 double.
The next chance to buy a horse in training at Tattersalls comes at the July Sale (July 5 – 8) whilst the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale takes place from October 24 – 27.
