Tattersalls October 1 Purchases Dominate G1 Juddmonte International
Graduates of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale dominated the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York yesterday with the Roger Varian-trained POSTPONED leading home HIGHLAND REEL, MUTAKAYYEF and SIR ISAAC NEWTON to complete a 1-2-3-4 for Book 1 purchases in the York racecourse showpiece.
POSTPONED was winning his fourth Group 1 yesterday and was purchased at October Book 1 by Charlie Gordon-Watson and John Warren for 360,000 guineas from the draft of Highclere Stud in 2012, the same year that third-placed MUTAKAYYEF realised 260,000 guineas. Triple Group 1 winner HIGHLAND REEL was purchased at October Book 1 the following year for 460,000 guineas whilst the quickly improving SIR ISAAC NEWTON topped the 2013 renewal of the sale at 3.6m guineas.
POSTPONED’s victory came shortly after another October Book 1 purchase IDAHO took out the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes in impressive fashion. An own-brother to HIGHLAND REEL, IDAHO broke through for an overdue victory at Group level following narrow defeats in the English and Irish Derbies. He is now a short favourite for the last British Classic of the year, the Group 1 St Leger.
The victory of IDAHO and second by HIGHLAND REEL provided a significant and timely update to the pedigree their own-sister, catalogued as lot 109 in Book 1 of the forthcoming Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The daughter of the DANEHILL mare HVEGER will be offered from Camas Park Stud and hails from one of the best Australia pedigrees on offer. HVEGER is a daughter of the Group 1 AJC Oaks winner CIRCLES OF GOLD and a sibling to the multiple Group 1 winners ELVSTROEM and HARADASUN.
Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place October 4 – 6. Catalogues are online at www.tattersalls.com and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives from next week.
