With the European yearling sales season about to get underway, Tattersalls October Yearling Sale purchases provided a timely reminder of the quality to be found at Park Paddocks in Newmarket winning four Group & Listed races in France and Germany including the day’s two Group 1 races.

Leading the way was Nurlan Bizakov’s star four-year-old colt CHARYN who won his fourth race of the season when taking out the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois in dominant fashion. The Roger Varian trained colt secured his second Group 1 victory in succession following on from his easy victory at Royal Ascot in the Queen Anne Stakes. CHARYN was purchased at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Sumbe for 250,000 guineas from the draft of Grangemore Stud.

The second Tattersalls Group 1 winner for the day was the Joseph O’Brien trained AL RIFFA who scored an easy victory in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten. The son of WOOTTON BASSETT, who races for the Al Riffa Syndicate, was a five lengths winner and was purchased for 150,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Joseph O’Brien from the draft of Michael Fitzpatrick’s Kilminfoyle Houe Stud.

Joseph O’Brien was also successful in Deauville when the two-year-old colt COWARDOFTHECOUNTY won the Group 3 Prix Francois Boutin for an American syndicate made up of Stonestreet Stables, John Oxley and Tracy Farmer. The son of KODI BEAR was purchased for 100,000 guineas at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by KR Bloodstock from ‘Flash’ Conroy’s Glenvale Stud.

Rounding off the quartet of Tattersalls Group/Listed winners on the day was the John & Thady Gosden trained OMBUDSMAN who looks a horse with a bright future following his easy victory in the Listed Prix Nureyev on only his third start. The son of NIGHT OF THUNDER was bought at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 340,000 guineas from Ballyhimikin Stud on behalf of owners Godolphin.
