Tattersalls October Yearlings Dominate Glorious Goodwood Day 1
Tattersalls October Yearling purchases dominated day one of Glorious Goodwood winning the first four races on the Sussex Downs, including the two Group races.
The Charlie Hills trained COTAI GLORY made all to land the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes in a two year old track record time. The son of EXCEED AND EXCEL was purchased for 75,000 guineas by bloodstock agent Alastair Donald at Book 2 of the 2013 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Consigned from Glebe Stud, COTAI GLORY is out of the ELUSIVE QUALITY mare CONTINUA who was bought by Julia Scott for 45,000 guineas at the 2010 Tattersalls December Sale.
Thirty five minutes later, the five year old entire ES QUE LOVE produced a career best performance to win the Group 2 Lennox Stakes for trainer Clive Cox and the Es Que Love Partnership. The five year old son of CLODOVIL was purchased at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale for 110,000 guineas, having originally been bought for 22,000 guineas at Book 2 of the 2010 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
The smart four year old stayer VAN PERCY made it a day to remember for Julia Scott’s Glebe Stud when landing the £80,000 Summer Stakes for trainer Andrew Balding. By SIR PERCY out of the KALANISI mare ENFORCE, VAN PERCY was sold by Glebe Stud for 27,000 guineas at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The opening contest was won by another October Book 2 purchase, SENNOCKIAN STAR, who was bought by his trainer Mark Johnston for 36,000 guineas.
Both ES QUE LOVE and SENNOCKIAN STAR have half brothers catalogued in Book 1 of this year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. ES QUE LOVE’s yearling half brother by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT will be offered from Corduff Stud, while the NEW APPROACH half brother to SENNOCKIAN STAR will be offered from Cheveley Park Stud. Europe’s premier yearling sale takes place Tuesday 7th - Thursday 9th October.
