Tattersalls to Sponsor Group 3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury
Salisbury racecourse’s feature race, the Sovereign Stakes which takes place on 16th August is to be sponsored by Tattersalls this year. The 1 mile £76,500 Group 3 race for 3 year old and upwards colts and geldings, has previously been won by the likes of Norse Dancer, Side Glance, Afsare and Kodi Bear. The Sovereign Stakes was inaugurated in 2000 as a Listed contest, but due to its success, was upgraded to Group 3 after just four years.
Tattersalls Marketing Manager Jason Singh said: “Tattersalls are delighted to sponsor the Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury and add it to our extensive list of race sponsorships. Salisbury is one Britain’s leading racecourses and it’s proximity to Lambourn and other training bases in the south make it a ideal place to meet owners and trainers. The Sovereign Stakes is also perfectly timed to coincide with the publication of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.”
Jeremy Martin, Clerk of the Course and Executive Director added: “We are very pleased that our big race will now have the name Tattersalls in the title. Tattersalls is the oldest bloodstock auctioneers in the world and the largest in Europe, so we are naturally very proud. Racing at Salisbury dates back over 450 years, so it is appropriate that a company with a long history of its own, is the new sponsor. We are extremely grateful for their generous support.”
The Group 3 Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes takes place on August 16 whilst Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place on October 9 – 11.
