Tattersalls Yearlings Dominate Royal Ascot
Yearlings sold at Tattersalls dominated proceedings at Royal Ascot, winning seven races, more than all other sales companies combined. Leading the way was the Group 1 Gold Cup winner LEADING LIGHT and Group 1 Coronation Stakes heroine RIZEENA, whilst TELESCOPE stamped himself as a horse of the future with his emphatic win in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes.
Last year’s Group 1 St Leger winner LEADING LIGHT showed plenty of determination to win the Group 1 Gold Cup ahead of last year’s winner ESTIMATE. The son of MONTJEU, out of the GONE WEST mare DANCE PARADE continued the great run this year of graduates from Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale following on from the 2,000 Guineas win of NIGHT OF THUNDER and the Derby win of AUSTRALIA. Demi O’Byrne secured the colt for 520,000 guineas from the draft of Ciaran ‘Flash’ Conroy’s Glenvale Stud.
RIZEENA put her below par effort in the 1,000 Guineas well and truly behind her with a dominant display in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes for trainer Clive Brittain. The daughter of IFFRAAJ was winning her second Group 1 following on from her victory in the Group 1 Moyglare Stakes last year and now has claims to being the leading three-year-old filly in Europe at a mile. RIZEENA was purchased by Rabbah Bloodstock’s Jono Mills at Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale for 50,000 guineas from the draft of Bobby and Honora Donworth’s Round Hill Stud.
TELESCOPE put his recent defeats well and truly behind him when running out a seven length winner of the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes and rocketing to favouritism for the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The son of GALILEO was purchased privately at Book 2 of October Yearling Sale for 225,000 guineas by John Warren on behalf of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing. MAVALENTA, a half-sister to TELESCOPE will be offered as lot 110 at the 2014 Tattersalls July Sale from Mill House Stud in foal to CHAMPS ELYSEES.
Other victories for Tattersalls yearling purchases included the Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes winner CANNOCK CHASE who is a 310,000 guineas October Book 1 purchase, Listed Queen’s Vase winner HARTNELL, a 45,000 guineas October Book 2 purchase and Buckingham Palace Stakes winner LOUIS THE PIOUS, a 57,000 guineas October Book 1 purchase.
Completing the septet of winners purchased at Tattersalls as yearlings was Group 2 Coventry Stakes winner THE WOW SIGNAL. The son of STARSPANGLEDBANNER was purchased for 13,000 Euros at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale - the only Irish yearling sale to sell a Royal Ascot winner.
The next sale at Tattersalls is the July Sale that takes place from July 9 – 11. Catalogues are out now and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives and online at www.tattersalls.com.
