16,000 Guineas Purchase Mecca's Angel Lands Second G1 Nunthorpe
16,000 guineas Tattersalls October Yearling purchase MECCA’S ANGEL produced an outstanding display of sprinting to land her second Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes in near course record time, taking her career earnings to £650,000.
Purchased by her trainer Michael Dods on behalf of owner David Metcalfe at Book 2 of the 2012 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, MECCA’S ANGEL was bred and consigned by Yeomanstown Stud. Out of the Listed placed ATRAF mare FOLGA, herself purchased at Tattersalls for 33,000 guineas, MECCA’S ANGEL is an own sister to the multiple Group 3 winner MARKAZ, by Yeomanstown Stud’s resident star stallion DARK ANGEL.
Yeomanstown Stud is offering an own sister to MECCA’S ANGEL at Book 1 of the forthcoming October Yearling Sale. The yearling filly, whose own sister sold for 825,000 guineas at Book 1 of the 2015 October Yearling Sale, is catalogued as lot 58 and is one of 24 DARK ANGEL yearlings catalogued for Europe’s premier yearling sale.
Earlier in the afternoon, QUEST FOR MORE continued the Tattersalls domination of the York Ebor Meeting, winning the Group 2 Lonsdale Stakes for trainer Roger Charlton and owner Sultan Ahmad Shah. QUEST FOR MORE, by TEOFILO out of NO QUEST, was purchased at Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale from Croom House Stud by Charlie Gordon - Watson for 58,000 guineas.
