Ambivalent Winning the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes

Tattersalls graduates won Group/Grade 1 events in Ireland, France and the USA over the weekend. Leading the way was October Book 1 graduate HAVANA GOLD in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly, followed less than a hour later by another Tattersalls yearling graduate AMBIVALENT in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh. The third of the Group/Grade 1 winning trio came overnight when Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training graduate OBVIOUSLY won the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes at Hollywood Park in California.

The three-year-old colt HAVANA GOLD broke through for his maiden Group 1 victory in the Prix Jean Prat for trainer Richard Hannon and owners Qatar Racing and CSH. The son of TEOFILO was purchased by Amanda Skiffington for 80,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2011 from the draft of breeder Sir Eric Parker’s Crimbourne Stud.

The four-year-old filly AMBIVALENT provided trainer Roger Varian with his third victory at the highest level when she ran out a brave all-the-way winner of the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh. The daughter of AUTHORIZED defeated last year’s Group 1 Oaks winner WAS to provide Tattersalls yearling graduates a 1-2 in the race. AMBIVALENT is a 24,000 guineas graduate of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale where she was consigned by Genesis Green Stud.

The five-year-old gelding OBVIOUSLY continued the staggering run of Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training graduates when he broke through for a well deserved Grade 1 victory when winning the Shoemaker Mile Stakes at Hollywood Park for trainer Mike Mitchell. The son of CHOISIR had won at Grade 2 level on three occasions as well as finishing an impressive third to US Horse of the Year WISE DAN and Group 1 Dubai World Cup winner ANIMAL KINGDOM in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile. OBVIOUSLY was bought by Jamie Lloyd and Craig Rounsefell’s Boomer Bloodstock for 130,000 guineas at the 2011 renewal of the world’s largest horses in training sale and is one of a remarkable 10 Group 1 winners from the sale in the last 3 years.
