Jack Hobbs Another Tattersalls October Classic Winner

60,000 guineas Tattersalls October Yearling JACK HOBBS produced a display of complete authority to become the fourth Tattersalls sold winner of the Irish Derby in five years. The son of HALLING stormed to a 5 length victory over the Epsom Derby third STORM THE STARS, with the Epsom fourth GIOVANNI CANALETTO a further 5 1/2 lengths back in third.

Second, beaten 3 1/2 lengths by GOLDEN HORN in the Investec Derby, JACK HOBBS established himself as second only to his illustrious stablemate in the hierarchy of European middle distance 3 year old colts, with his trainer John Gosden declaring the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as the primary goal after becoming the first British - trained winner of Ireland’s premier Classic since 1993.

Purchased by Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock at Book 2 of the 2013 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, JACK HOBBS was bred by Willie and Elaine Carson at their Minster Stud in Gloucestershire. The handsome dark bay son of HALLING, himself also trained by John Gosden, is out of the winning SWAIN mare SWAIN’S GOLD, a daughter of the multiple Graded Stakes winner GOLDEN POND.

JACK HOBBS is the third Tattersalls sold European Classic winner to date in 2015, following 350,000 guineas Tattersalls October Book 1 purchase LEGATISSIMO, winner of the 1000 Guineas, and Poule d’Essai des Poulains winner MAKE BELIEVE, a 180,000 guineas purchase at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale. Investec Derby winner GOLDEN HORN went through Book 1 of the 2013 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale unsold at 190,000 guineas.

The next sale at Tattersalls is the July Sale, July 8th - 10th, which has more than 800 lots catalogued comprising broodmares and fillies and horses in training.
