Kyllachy Colts Top Opening Day Of Tattersalls December Foal Sale

Colts by Cheveley Park Stud’s KYLLACHY topped proceeding’s on the opening day of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale which saw rises for turnover and median. A total of 152 lots sold for 1,428,500 guineas at an average of 9,398 guineas and a median of 6,250 guineas - figures that were up 16%, down 2% and up 8% respectively on the opening session last year.

Early in the evening a pair of KYLLACHY colts, catalogued as Lots 481 and 484 become the day’s hot property when knocked down for 50,000 guineas and 55,000 guineas respectively. The colt out of the OBSERVATORY mare CELESTIAL PRINCESS and consigned from Paul and Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud was knocked down to Yeomanstown’s Gay O'Callaghan for 50,000gns. Three lots later, the colt out of the SELKIRK mare FINE LADY, who was offered by Stringston Farm, was knocked down to Redpender Stud’s Jimmy Murphy for 55,000gns.

"He is a nice foal, good moving and well-balanced," said O'Callaghan of the Trickledown Stud-offered colt. "He is a lovely horse - I had to work to get him, but I was not going without him."

Like O'Callaghan, Murphy has also previously had a good touch with a KYLLACHY yearling having sold NASRI, a 103-rated sprinter by the Cheveley Park Stud sire, for 130,000gns in 2007.

"This is a very nice horse," said Murphy of his purchase. "I like the stallion, he is a popular sire, and this foal, like NASRI, is out of a SELKIRK mare. This foal will come back here next autumn.”

The ROYAL APPLAUSE colt out of the PURSUIT OF LOVE mare ROLEXA was knocked down to David Myerscough for 45,000 guineas on behalf of a pinhooking syndicate. Myerscough, who is buying through joint the sales operation of Baroda Stud, which is owned by the Cox family and managed by David Cox, and the Myerscough family's Colbinstown Stud, was delighted with his purchase.

"For me he was the pick of the day," he said. "I didn't think we would be able to afford him. He has been bought for a syndicate and will be coming back here next October. His yearling brother was bought for a lot of money by Shadwell in the autumn, hopefully he will do something for us."

"We've got one of two more colts to buy and hopefully we'll add in a few fillies."

Another colt to capture the interest of pinhookers was the COMPTON PLACE colt out of the ROYAL APPLAUSE mare CROWD PLEASER. Consigned from Paul and Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud the striking chesnut was knocked down to Irish agent Eddie O’Leary for 45,000 guineas who commented that "All being well, he'll return here next autumn."

The SAKHEE’S SECRET colt out of the EFISIO mare COFFEE TIME made the running for most of the day but had to settle for second best behind the aforementioned colt.  Consigned from Andrew Coleing’s Hampton Paddocks, the colt was knocked down for 39,000 guineas to JC Bloodstock’s Michael Fitzpatrick who confirmed that "all being well you'll see him back here next year."
