Tattersalls October Book 1 Star Shalaa Wins Second Group 1
SHALAA, a 170,000 guineas purchase at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale won the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket today following on from his Group 1 Prix Morny victory last month.
SHALAA was purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by agent Charlie Gordon-Watson for 170,000 guineas on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing from the draft of Martin & Lee Taylor's Clairemont Stud. The son of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT was purchased by Liam Norris and William Huntingdon on behalf of Clairemont Stud for 100,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale from the draft of Castlefarm Stud.
The October Book 1 Sale received a further boost when the Mark Johnston-trained LUMIERE provided his EXCEED AND EXCEL half-brother with the best possible catalogue update when she took out the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stud Stakes. To be consigned by Rathasker Stud, the son of EXCEED AND EXCEL out of the TOBOUGG mare SCREEN STAR is catalogued as lot 433 at Europe’s Premier Yearling Sale.
Later on the time-honoured Cambridgeshire was taken out by the Richard Fahey-trained THIRD TIME LUCKY. The son of Clodovil was purchased at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale last year for 22,000 guineas by Robin O’Ryan from Lynn Lodge Stud.
Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place from October 6 – 8 and will feature the only yearlings eligible for the all-new Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ which offers a £25,000 bonus to any two-year-old graduate who wins a Class 2, 3 or 4 Maiden in Great Britain or an ‘Open’ Maiden in Ireland.
